Semnan Province, with 97,491 square kilometers, located in east of Tehran. Semnan, Shahrood , Damghan, and Garmsar are cities of this province. The population of this province in 2006 was 589742 person, Semnan city is capital of Semnan province, and Shahrood city is the biggest city of Semnan province because of its population. Semnan province is located in southern foothills of Alborz Mountain and the height of this province decrease in south and leads to desert ( Dasht-e-Kavir). This province divide to mountainous parts and plains which are lead to foothill. Mountainous parts have capability of tourism and mineral water. plains in cold mountainous parts, in foothills have mild climates and in deserts have hot weather.

Due to severe wind and rain of Gorgan and Mazandaran province, Damghan city has cold winters and mild summers. Semnan city has mild winters and hot summers. Shahrood has cold weather in northern parts and mild, in central parts and warm weather in southern parts.

Semnan Province, is one of divisions of Avestan sixteen antiquity. In Median and Achaemenid periods it was one part of Part or Parto‘s states. In Sassanid era it was one of the important cities. Semnan region belonged to Ghomes or Komesh, the historical city, after Islam. Semnan province with more than two thousands year of history was place of many wars, defeats and victories.

Abrisham road or Silk Road had passed through the center of the province. Numerous historic monuments such as palaces, mansions, buildings, castles, watering place areas, and forts exist in province. Palaces of Fath Ali Shah, and Agha Mohammad Khan in Damghan city , the palace of Shah Abbas, Einol Rashid ‘s harem, mansion of Naser-e- Din Shah’s daughter in Damghan , Serve’s castles, Koshmoghan and Baichenar in Semnan, Lasjerd and Bankoh castles in Garmsar and…

Semnan Province because of natural attractions is remarkable place. Margins of rivers, fountains of mineral and natural water, promenades, jungles, protected zones, peaks and height, caves and desert’s attractions, are the elements.

Semnan province has different customs and ceremonies and different kinds of people. National and religious ceremonies, marriage and choosing spouse, funeral and mourning ceremonies and…are remarkable for tourists.

Manouchehri Damghani, Ibn Yamin-e- Faromadi, Frough Bastami , Yaghmaee Jandaghi , Zoghi Bastami, Sheikh Abol Hasan Kharaghani, Bayazid Bastami , Sheikh Aala-o-dole Semnani, Sheikh Sakak , Bibi Monajame Semnani.
And contemporary celebrities are:
Haj Ali Semnani, Feiz-e- Semnani, Zabih Allah Safa and Ali Moallem.

One of interesting ceremonies that Semnan’s people have is that; they never wear black clothe in their funeral ceremonies. The reason is that they hate a black flag of Abbasid Army.
